Obinna was born in Ahoada in present day Rivers State. He was the last in a family of five, consisting of one girl and four boys. He was born after the only female child was born. His parents were from Anambra state but they migrated to Ahoada from Onitsha before Nigerian civil war began. But when the civil war started his parents ran back to their town one of the communities in Anambra state. As a child, Obinna exhibited a great intelligence. However, his intelligence could be said to be genetic because his parents were generally acknowledged to be exceptionally intelligent. Even his elder siblings were equally endowed upstairs. But Obinna exuded such intelligence that made people shudder at his perspicacity. When he was a child Obinna said that he would go to college and University. And he held unto this thought and occasionally shared this dream with his friends as a primary school pupil. But series of events in his family tended to kill this dream. Firstly, his eldest brother didn't go to college after his primary school education. He was sent to PH for apprenticeship. Secondly, the next to the eldest also was not given secondary school education by their parents. He went for boy boy just as the eldest son. Thirdly, the 3rd son went to Secondary School but left in class two claiming that he was not getting enough provisions to argument his feeding as a boarding student. That made him join the league of drop out. Though many of their uncles intervened and begged him to go back to school and promised to be giving him provisions and pocket money but he refused claiming that their support was belated. Subsequently, one of the uncles who had persuaded him to go back to school came and took him for apprenticeship/in he had made an unwise decision which he would regret. And told him to rescind his decision. But he refused and talked him down. "What elders couldn't do, do you think a child like you can do it?" he told him. Obinna had been looking up to him as a mentor. So when he left school his dream of going to school died. And his enthusiasm in school work, plummeted. His teacher and classmates noticed this downward trajectory but none of them took any step to advise and rechannel his thought to intellectualism. When it was time for common entrance exam he never told his parents. And when his father told him to write the exam he couldn't take it. "All my siblings are doing boy boy because that is the perfect thing to do," he told his father. ”No my son it is not. You should consider yourself lucky that l want to send you to college," his father retorted. "Papa l cannot be the one to finish what Ela started," he said. 'My son l cannot force you to listen to my counsel but if you do it would work in your favour but if you refused, that is to your detriment,' his father said, almost begging him 'I don't doubt you but none of my brothers had talked to me on that,' he insisted. "That is your wish and l will allow you but you will regret it,” his father emphasized. Few months after his primary school, Obinna was taken to Enugu to do boy boy. He was in Enugu for about 6 months. But towards the end of the sixth month, he was taken to Lagos. On his second day in Lagos. while he was listening to conversation of adults one of the adults called him aside. "l have been observing you since you came," he told him.. Obinna had laughed to his words. "I don't think you belong here because you're too intelligent to be here." "I don't understand what you're saying sir," Obinna had said. "What l mean is that you should go back to school. But don't tell anybody that l told you this," the man said. And Obinna nodded That same day Obinna wrote a letter to his parents and told them about his decision. But his father vehemently refused to do as he had demanded in the letter. But when by divine intervention he came back to their town, he told his parents again that he was still ready to go back to school. But his father responded as he had done before And when his eldest brother came home and was told about his intentions he was rebuked and was derided the more. The eldest brother said that Obinna had no inclination to study but merely to go to school and do guy.” His eldest brother was determined to stop him. And he labeled him wayward and all members of the family accepted what he said. But after many years of longing for academics; he was determined to pursue his dream. He enrolled in a short program and after two years he was ready to write o'level exam. When the result came out, he got a perfect result. And when UTME was also released, he did well and was offered admission. He entered University and graduated within a record time. Hence, his dream manifested and all the negative words his family members said could not stop him. Nobody believe in his dream. His three brothers opposed him as well as his parents. But today he has become an intellectual after defeating all his family members who tried to frustrate him.
