People make mistakes in daily use of English words. And these mistakes are more noticeable and common in use of verbs. These mistakes are glaring in usage of: be, are, were, is and was than in others. Some of these errors are: 1. You are there yesterday. This is wrong. One should rather say- You were there yesterday. This is because were is the past tense of are 2. Am going to Lagos. It is wrong. It should be- I am going. Because the verb be must come after a pronoun unless when the sentence is a question. 3. You does not know her. This is wrong. Just say- You do not know her. 4. I does not eat beans. This is wrong. You should say- I do not eat beans. 5. We eats food everyday. This is bad. Just say- We eat food everyday. 6. You was in school yesterday. This is wrong. It should be- You were in school yesterday. 7. He were in school on Friday. This is bad. You should say- He was in school on Friday. 8. You kills snake. This is bad. You should say- You kill snake or John kills snake or She kills snake. 9. Am l ugly? Not - l am ugly? In asking question, the verb to be comes before the pronoun 10. Was John in school? Not- Were John in school? 11. Were they in school? Not- Was they in school? 12. They were in school yesterday.
